Every year around the
United States, the requirements and expectations of schools increase and change.
More schools look for different skills and attributes for their future
students. Not only does this give students a harder time with choosing the
schools they want to attend, but also provide them with more stress due to
their inability to pinpoint what exactly colleges want. This is an opportunity that
I had identified when I was in high school. I found it incredibly difficult to
both manage my high school coursework and my SAT responsibilities. For students
here in Florida, we are fortunate to have the Bright Futures scholarship that rewarded
students, who got above a 1290 on the SAT, with paid tuition costs for any
college or university in Florida. However, starting July 2020, the requirement will
increase to a 1330 on the SAT for Bright Futures to pay for student tuition.
Not only is this a significant increase, but it will also hinder students going
into college negatively. An increase in students will find it harder to pay for
college, have less incentive to attend college, or would prefer to dropout and
get a job. This will overall provide less incentive for student to pursue, let
alone, afford a college education. My service would also be highly affordable
with parents, who hope to see a bright future for their children. This, with my
company’s relentless pursuit to help students, could be make a real change in
the lives of many.
The product that I plan
on providing aids students in both managing high school coursework and increasing
their overall score on the SAT. My service will be directed more towards
students who need more attention and require help with various subject
including SAT prep. Each student will have their own tutor with teaching skills
that would benefit them the most. This is something that I wish I had in high
school. Throughout my experience with applications, I felt lost most of the
time and unable to manage all the things on my plate. Today, after putting in
the work and getting into my dream school, I notice my sister trying to follow
my path, but also struggling tremendously. My product uses students like my
sister as a target and tries to aid people like my parents, hardworking individuals
that struggle to pay for college and need financial assistance. Today this is
the reality with most students that attend. A significant number of students either
have trouble
affording
the ever-increasing costs of college/university. In a survey by the American
Psychological Association, 80% of kids claim school in source of their stress,
68% claim that financial concerns are the reason for their stress. The world we live in today, a college degree
is massively important in obtaining most jobs. A degree that exceeds both an AA
and a bachelor’s is also paramount. I am certain that when taking everything
into consideration, parents will feel inclined to seek help from me and my
company for the overall betterment of their children.
My education facility
would first revolve around a monthly membership. Similarly, to a gym membership,
parents would pay 20$ a month for all programs that we offer, with prices varying
depending on the amount of courses that they decide to enroll in. Although we
offer individual course tutoring, the focus would be to have students that need
overall help. Our tutors would start by having closeup meetings with the
parents and the students in order to get a good understanding of their schedule.
What days they have extracurricular activities, when they’ll be out of town,
and even prepare their schedule based on when they plan on taking the SAT. This
along with easy rescheduling As a bonus
we will also have counselor’s and other teachers whose goal is to help students
with both college applications and college essays. As a student in high school,
my personal experiences with applying to college and writing college essays
were tedious because of how much work needed to be put in, and the minimal
amount of help I would receive due to ineffective/busy counselor’s.
My overall service will
be not only directed towards the students, but also towards the parents. With a
20$ a month price on my service, parents will be able to afford premium help
for their children, at a more than affordable price. For a parent that relies
heavily on financial aid for their child to attend college, my service makes
this particular issue affordable. With
the new law change of the bright future scholarship, more families will
struggle to finance student’s college experience, the stress levels of both
students and parents will increase, and more students will be inclined to drop
out of college and get a full-time job.
Throughout the process of
refining my idea, I have received ample amount of feedback in regards to my
idea both in class and with entrepreneurs I have spoken too. Most of the
classmates give me positive feedback and wish that a service like the one I plan
on providing, existed when they were in high school, whereas the people that I spoke
too give me helpful tips on marketing and personal scenarios that have made me
think about alternatives. With that I have rethought and changed price, service
and marketing strategies.
