 In this blog post I will be responding and analyzing Laura Sjoberg's book in regard to gender and war crimes. In this article, Sjoberg does a great job explaining how her arguments are not intentionally meant to be contradictory, but that gender is not natural, but that it is present inherently in war. Where I agree with Sjoberg is that war is definitely gendered. Generals, politicians, and soldiers are majority men, while the women are seen those who need to be protected during war. Furthermore, if a country cannot properly defend their women, then they are considered weak. Its very eye opening how although women don’t start the wars, they are the ultimately the large victims of war. As mentioned by Sjoberg, women face large amounts of political, economic, and social hardships during war.       Since week 5 in my gender and International Relations course, or since my last blog post, me and my class have gotten more familiarized with the subtle gender orientated vocabulary of the English language. Aside from the movie G.I. Jane that we watched in class, the two articles discussed in class by Siobhan Byrne and Carol Cohn perfectly encapsulates nuances of vocabulary, as well as the disregard for female opinion. Although the two articles express slightly different examples, the disregard of female opinion and the negative connotations of certain ‘feminized’ words that hinder the credibility of women is worth investigating and learning about.                 Firstly, I would like to focus on the article by Siobhan Byrne.              Upon registering to take Gender and International relations I was hesitant to step into a course and an area of political science that I didn't really understand. After a couple of classes and articles read, I can say that gender and international relations are two subjects that definitely go hand in hand. A main topic discussed in the course has been the varying articles that focus on mainly women and feminism as an accredited and historically excluded science in the studies of political science. The two articles that  grabbed my attention were:  Contributions of a feminist Standpoint by Robert Keohane, and Different Communities/ Different Realities/ Different Encounters: A reply to J. Ann Tickner by Marianne Marchand. Both articles demonstrate wide ranges of knowledge pertaining to gender, feminist ideologies, and masculine influence in daily society. What sticks out to me after completing this course has been the fact that it was a start in many ways for me. Before this course I’ve had a litany of ideas that I felt identified an opportunity. However, I never knew where to start and how to move forwards with my idea. In this course I learned that its all about tearing down and building up ideas, while keeping the essence or foundation of the opportunity number one and most important. At the end of this course I genuinely feel more like an entrepreneur and feel both empowered and full of knowledge I didn’t have at the start of this course.             As a recommendation for incoming students, time management and giving each assignment your all is paramount to success. Breaking out of your comfort zone was very important at least for me during this course and has made me extremely comfortable moving forward and I really must thank this course for bringing this out of me.

Every year around the United States, the requirements and expectations of schools increase and change. More schools look for different skills and attributes for their future students. Not only does this give students a harder time with choosing the schools they want to attend, but also provide them with more stress due to their inability to pinpoint what exactly colleges want. This is an opportunity that I had identified when I was in high school. I found it incredibly difficult to both manage my high school coursework and my SAT responsibilities. For students here in Florida, we are fortunate to have the Bright Futures scholarship that rewarded students, who got above a 1290 on the SAT, with paid tuition costs for any college or university in Florida. However, starting July 2020, the requirement will increase to a 1330 on the SAT for Bright Futures to pay for student tuition. What was the general theme or argument of the book? The General theme of this book was persistence and risk taking. Throughout the biography, Ashlee Vance provided a litany of occurrences of Elon musk and his brave business ventures. From the selling of paypal to the creation of Space X, Elon musk had a vision and definitely capitalized on the opportunities presented to him. How did the book, in your opinion, connect with and enhance what you are learning in ENT 3003? This book definitely enhanced the aspect of taking risks. I feel that reading this book put an emphasis on the concept of taking advantage of needs and opportunities presented. What I have gathered from this course up to this point is that information on your product, delivery and patience are crucial to success.
